WILLIAM ANDERSON

CTO @ Bloomberg Media - CDO @ Bloomberg Connects - Trustee @ Beam Center

I lead ~160 engineers across Bloomberg Media's consumer products, AI, data, and cultural technology platforms, and I run product for Bloomberg Connects, the free digital guide used by more than 1,500 museums and cultural organizations worldwide. Earlier, at Forbes (2018 - 2021), I led the exit from legacy data centers and rebuilt the content-syndication engine. My work sits where AI capability meets regulated, reputation-sensitive brands: what to license, what to gate, who is accountable when a model gets it wrong.

Frontier AI, premium content, and the boards that govern both.

AI Governance

I own the data-governance layer across Bloomberg Media — what gets gated, what a model is permitted to touch, and who is accountable when it's wrong. Most boards are asking this question right now and getting answers from people who have never shipped it. Bloomberg Media's Data Access AI Agent — a governed natural-language interface to the business's data — was featured as a named flagship customer in Google Cloud's 2026 launch of Knowledge Catalog.

Cloud At Scale

Led Forbes' full data-center exit and rebuilt its syndication engine (2018 - 2021). At Bloomberg, I run the platforms behind news, subscriptions, and advertising for millions of monthly users.

Tech as P&L

Direct operator experience with paywall economics and eight-figure digital advertising P&Ls. I can tell a board which line of the roadmap moves which line of the statement, and which one won't.

Speaking

I speak on AI governance and data,
the economics of premium content in an AI-mediated internet, and building engineering organizations that ship under regulatory constraint.

Past venues include Google Cloud Next (2018), Vercel Ship NYC (2026), Gartner CIO Leadership Forum (2026), and Disability in Tech (2025).

Culture

I run product for Bloomberg Connects, the free digital guide to more than 1,500 museums, galleries, and cultural spaces worldwide — the largest cultural-access platform of its kind. Closer to home, I serve as a trustee of Beam Center, and I maintain a studio practice of my own: sculpture, painting, and printmaking, every piece carrying the same recurring figure. That work is here →

Technology built for cultural institutions has a different failure tolerance than technology built for markets. Running both is the point.

How I Lead

PASTE:
Passion, Accountability, Strength, Transparency, Empathy.

The same five words govern how I run a 160-person engineering organization, how I show up in my marriage and as a parent, and how I surface risk in a boardroom — clearly, early, and grounded in the people behind the decision.
